Frequently asked questions
Good questions, honest answers
Straight from Ashley — what to expect, how sessions work, and how to get the most out of your massage.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
At your first appointment, we’ll review your goals for treatment and the ways massage therapy can help you. I’ll answer any questions you might have and make sure your session is totally tailored to your needs. Arriving 5–10 minutes early if you have questions is always a great idea.
Can I ask for more or less pressure? Is it okay to talk during the session?
This is YOUR session! Each massage is different, and you are always encouraged to ask for more or less pressure. The same goes for talking during your session. This time is reserved just for you — if you feel like sleeping, sleep. If you feel like you need to talk, I’m all ears!
What’s the difference between deep tissue work and a relaxation massage?
I work with each client to remain within their comfort level. If your goal is to relax only, just communicate that and I’m happy to make it happen! Deep tissue work is not always a “relaxing” massage — when you’re working on repetitive-use injuries or deeply seated adhesions, deeper pressure is often required. I stay in constant communication with my clients throughout our sessions to make sure we operate within their comfort level at all times.
Is it normal to feel sore the day after? What aftercare do you recommend?
It’s completely normal to feel sore after massage therapy. While we’re working to relieve pain and discomfort in the body, we’re moving a lot of fluid and irritants around inside. Staying well hydrated and stretching can relieve most discomfort after massage therapy.
